Born in Scotland, Derek has his paintings in private collections across the UK and Ireland. 

 

A Professional artist he originally qualified at a Graphic Designer at Leeds University. He went on to do some work for the National Parks and then taught Art and Design in Devon,  completing his career in Senior Management before returning to his love of painting and the outdoors after a life changing health event.

 

Now living in the beautiful hills of North Wales his work is often inspired by his Celtic roots and surroundings. His paintings draw particularly on dominant skies and reflect a strong sense of place and connection to the natural world.

Through his work, he seeks to capture nature in all her moods, from the quiet softness of dappled light within a forest canopy to the drama of expansive skies over wild, rugged landscapes. His paintings are created to bring to try and entice you into the moment.
